Housing Scheme not for all States - Fashola

Minister of Works, Housing and Power, Babatunde Fashola on Tuesday said due to migration of persons, some States will need more housing than the other as regards the ongoing federal housing scheme initiated.
Recall that lawmakers had agitated that the Housing scheme be spread across the federation. The agitation came in when the ministry had suggested that the scheme be concentrated in Abuja, Lagos, Port Harcourt among other notable cities in the country.
Fashola made the disclosure in Abuja while briefing the House Committee on Works on how to implement the ministry's 2016 budget.
Speaking further, the minister said not all States were able to submit their housing scheme plan as requested by the federal government reason that some were not interested in the scheme.
He explained that the budget set aside for housing for the year will not solve the challenge of accommodation the country is faced with as various housing pattern will be required.
He said different housing pattern are still being proposed stressing that when the ministry finalize on the required pattern, the private public partnership will be allowed to participate.
Earlier, chairman of the Committee, Mustapha Dawaki had questioned the delay in providing the housing pattern by the ministry even after the budget was passed six months ago.
According to the ministry, six federal secretariat in each geopolitical zones will be ready for commission by the end of July this year. Other project done and still under construction includes the prototype of 316 units of housing.
