Alleged Forgery: Senate invites AGF

‎The Nigerian senate has on Tuesday summoned the Attorney-General of the Federation, who is also the Minister of Justice, Mr. Abubakar Malami, over the planned prosecution of the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, and Ike Ekweremadu, for allegedly forging the Senate Standing Order 2015.

Correspondent Adeoye Olalekan reports that the senate resolution followed a motion moved by the Senator representing Kogi West Senatorial District, Dino Melaye, who relied on order 14 and 52, to demand the approval of his colleagues for his two prayers including  the invitation of the AGF and the genuineness of the rule book.

Sen. Melaye said that the allegation by the executive was another attempt to overthrow the legislature, insisting that its rule is authentic and not forged.‎

He warned the Executive to concentrate its efforts on how to salvage the country from hardship and biting economic conditions‎.

The motion enjoyed laudable support from the law-makers ‎on the floor of the senate

The law-makers were appalled that the same rules of the Senate was used in the administration of its proceedings during the ministerial confirmation process which brought the Attorney-General to office as well as other top government officials.

After contributions from Senators, In his ruling Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremau who presided over the session approved the two prayers through voice votes and directed the Senate Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights and Legal Matters, to summon Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, given 48 hours to interrogate him on the allegedly forging Standing Order 2015.

The Attorney-General, Abubakar Malami, is to appear before the Senate Committee on Judiciary and Human Rights not later than Thursday.‎‎
