World Population Day: Investing in teenage girls.

In commemoration of the 2016 world population day,Nigeria has joined the rest of the world to promote, protect rights and support teenage girls to determine their own
destinies.
This year's world population day is celebrated with the theme : Investing in teenage girls.
Teenage girls around the world face more and greater challenges  than their male counterparts.
Chairman of NPC,Eze Odimegwu, said the new 2030 agenda for sustainable development  is an unprecedented  opportunity for teenage girls to claim their rights,realize their aspirations and transform the nation.
Representative,ministry of women Affairs, reiterated that when a teenage girl has power, the means and information to make her own desicions she is more likely to realize  her full potential and become a positive force for change in her home and community.
Child rights activits, Ahmed Marian, explained that investing in and unlocking the potential of teenage girls and young women everywhere should be a top priority,so that they can pursue a world of equality, lamenting that too many girls are denied the right to education and equal opportunities, keeping them in the cycle of poverty.‎
According to United Nations Population  Funds (UNFPA) an estimated number of 20 thousand girls between the ages of 15 and 19 give birth each day in developing countries.‎
The United Nations Assembly recommended  that 11th July be observed annually as World population  day.
