Chelsea losing ground to Arsenal in huge striker battle
Chelsea fear they are losing ground to Arsenal in the battle for £65million
Alvaro Morata.
The Real Madrid striker, 23, is understood to be cooling on a move to Stamford Bridge because the Blues are without Champions League football next season.
Real have activated a £23million buyback clause in Morata’s contract to re-sign him from Juventus. The Champions League holders have done so to ensure that they cash in if he moves this summer, rather than Juve.
Both London clubs want to sign Morata after his goals helped Juventus win a fifth straight Italian title last season - and he also scored three for Spain at Euro2016. But the Gunners can offer Champions League after finishing runners-up to Leicester last season.
With his agent confirming offers on the table from the Premier League, Real have set his asking price at £65million and this has not deterred either London outfit, who would have to break their record fees to sign him.
Chelsea are also ready to rival Napoli and Inter Milan for £22million Lazio winger Antonio Candreva.
Blues boss Antonio Conte is keen to be reunited with the winger who impressed for him during Italy’s run to the Euro 2016 quarter-finals.
