Centralize Database to capture Nigerians Reps urge NIMC
The House of Representatives has urged the National Identity Management Commission(NIMC) to regularly update its centralized national database to capture Nigerians of all ages, gender and ethnicity.
It also urged the federal ministry of interior to interface with relevant agencies like the Federal Road Safety Corps(FRSC) and the Nigerian Immigration Service with Specialized data to integrate and share their data into the Central Database platform.
These resolves among others which was adopted by the House emanated from a motion raised at the Wednesday's plenary by Hon. Omoriegie Ogbeide-Ihama.
Ogbeide-Ihama stressed the need for a centralized database to capture Nigerians of all ages, gender, ethnicity adding that it will specifically identify all citizens and foreigners living in the country and will aid the government in statistical planning and realistic budgeting, security surveillance and provision of infrastructure.
He harped that countries with centralized database like the United States of America, United Kingdom, Germany, China, Kenya and South Africa have recorded growth and development, minimal level of corruption, high security surveillance, effective immigrant control, social security and welfare and effective tax systems.
To this end, the House urged the Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC), the Nigerian Communications Commission(NCC) as well as the Central Bank of Nigeria(CBN) to ensure that relevant agencies under them comply by
synergizing their data into the Central Database platform.
Committees on Interior, Population, Federal Road Safety Commission, Telecommunications, banking and Currency, and Electoral and Political Party Matters are therefore mandated to ensure compliance.
