Arsenal plan to fight off England for Arsene Wenger and look to open talks over contract extension to ensure he stays at Emirates
Arsenal are planning to keep manager Arsene Wenger from England’s clutches next season.
Wenger will certainly see out the final year of his contract next season, but, speaking on Tuesday, FA chief executive Martin Glenn revealed he’s prepared to wait up to year to ensure he appoints the right man.
But Arsenal are already looking towards opening talks over an extension to ensure he stays.
A poor season for Arsenal could change the dynamics of a new Wenger contract somewhat given the potential for a fan backlash, which could open the door for the FA to make their move.
Meanwhile Gunners legend Tony Adams is back at the north London club.
The former Gunners captain has started coaching at the club’s Hale End academy — primarily working with the Under 18s.
It remains to be seen whether he will be offered a full-time role, but Adams has been taking sessions with Arsenal’s best youngsters from last Wednesday.
Adams is latest former Gunner to work within their academy set-up; Thierry Henry and Freddie Ljungberg have worked with the academy in recent years.
One-club-man Adams is still revered by Gunners fans following his heroic career with the north London giants.
Indeed, there is a statue of Adams located outside the Emirates Stadium in honour of his glowing service to the club.
