2016 African child day:AAN visits IDPs.

As Nigeria joins the rest of the African Countries to commemorate 2016 Day of African Child, ActionAid Nigeria paid a visit to the Gongola Internally Displaced Persons(IDPs)Host Community, Kuchin Goro in the Federal Capital Territory.
Correspondent Aisha Salami reports that Country Director of ActionAid Nigeria, Ojobo Atuluku says this year's Celebration has brought ActionAid to create a forum where the voices of children affected by conflict can be heard and also advocate for the rights and improved living condition of children in IDP camps.
The devastating effect of the BOKO HARAM insurgency in the North East created a ripple causing many to flee from their homes and residing in other parts of the country.
From Bauchi to TARABA, Gombe to even as far as Benin in Edo STATE, camps are set up for thousands of internally displaced persons who lost or left everything to flee the conflict.
ACTION AID as part of efforts to alleviate some of the hardships these IDPs are going through joined millions around the world to celebrate this year's day of the African child.
Chairman of the Gongola IDPs Host Community,Joseph Jauro, lamenting the poor involvement of the government by not providing special and basic amenities applauds the full participation of NGOs and Religious Practitioners who periodically assist while appealing to the government to provide them with medical care, which is a major challenge faced by the IDPs.
The IDPs also express their dislike for the poor standard of living at the camp pointing out their need for these special amenities that will only sustain them temporarily as many of them are dying due to lack of medical attention.
Nigeria is faced with not just ending insurgency, but relocating these internally displaced persons back to their homes of origin. With assistance from donor agencies such as the action aid, and the reclamation of most of the occupied communities by the military, that dream doesn't seem far from reality.
